Born in Ireland, raised in Kentucky and falling in love with Chicago during graduate school, Dr. Lyons now calls the Windy City her home. Her life’s work and dedication is to the mental, emotional and overall wellbeing of children and their families. After working at a number of top area hospitals, Dr. Lyons has honed her approach to working with families, including psychological testing, therapy and groups. Her clinic, Dr. Aoife Lyons and Associates, offers a welcoming, non-threatening environment where children and families emotionally grow.
In order to fully understand a family’s needs, licensed clinicians at Dr. Aoife Lyons and Associates consult with all the important caregivers in your child’s life. This includes parents, teachers and other professionals who may work with your child. By adopting this team approach we can be most efficient in meeting a child’s needs and giving them the tools for success.
Dr. Lyons’ Psychoeducational assessments are for children from zero through high school who may be struggling with issues such as attention (ADHD, ADD), learning (LD), sensory regulation (SID), developmental delays (DD) and autism spectrum disorders (PDD, or Asperger’s.) She offers detailed recommendations and advocates for early intervention. Psychotherapy sessions are available for both children and families. Dr. Lyons’ approach is solution focused and she offers suggestions in areas such as coping with stress, anger management, decreasing anxiety and social skills. Because sessions are fun and interactive children are excited to come back!
Children, teens and adults can participate in groups where they can meet others struggling with similar issues, work with a speech pathologist, study with a learning specialist or just visit the magic jungle playroom. A list of current groups is available on our services page.
Welcome to Dr. Aoife Lyons and Associates. We look forward to meeting you and developing a creative plan that fits with the needs of your family.
